Items You Consume Regularly Can Impact Your Dental Health
Posted on 6/7/2021 by Aron Geelan, DMD
While you can have a piece of hard candy every now and then or at a slice of pizza occasionally, you should not eat these foods regularly. Both foods are not dental-friendly and are bad for your gums and teeth.
Sometimes You Need to Make a Dietary Change
If you eat healthy and fresh foods, you can improve your dental health and overall well-being. Get into the habit of eating foods that do not damage the teeth that are not too hard, crunchy, or chewy. It also helps to identify acidic foods and drinks and to avoid them. Some of these foods include tomatoes, citrus fruits, coffee, and alcohol such as beer and wine. Any refined wheat can cause dental problems as well as processed foods and sugary treats.
What Foods You Should Regularly Eat
To ensure you protect your teeth, you need to eat foods that are alkaline in nature. These foods serve to remineralize the enamel and strengthen the teeth. The best foods to eat include leafy greens, fresh fruits, such as peeled pears, strawberries, and pineapple. When it comes to protein, choose fresh and lean cuts of meat. Fish and chicken are also good foods to eat. Do not eat thick cuts of meat or meats that have been processed, such as sausages or bologna. When you eat healthy foods, you will maintain a healthier smile and have fewer problems with cavities or gum infections.
Stay on Top of Your Dental Health
You can also improve your dental health by conscientiously brushing your teeth for 2 minutes twice a day and flossing for the same length of time daily. By changing what you eat and following at-home routine dental care, you can prevent dental decay and tooth damage.
