Do I Need to Be Placed Under Anesthesia for Dental Implant Surgery?DMD Aron Geelan and his team will examine your jawbone, and depending on the complexity of your case, decide on the most suitable anesthesia. We typically don’t need to sedate patients and only apply local anesthesia for dental implant surgery. However, we may recommend a mild sedative if you are prone to greater pain sensitivity to ensure that you’re completely comfortable during the process. Who is a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?Anybody with a fully-formed jawbone requiring replacements for missing or damaged teeth can be a good candidate for dental implant surgery. You need to have a dense and healthy jawbone to successfully hold the implant tightly, but we can perform bone grafting in case your jawbone is not dense enough. I am Pregnant But I Need Tooth Replacement. Can I Get a Dental Implant Procedure Done?Dental implants require several surgeries and involve using sedatives and x-rays. The sedatives and x-rays present a risk to the fetus. We strongly advise waiting until after birth to get your dental implant procedure done. How Long Do Dental Implants Last?Dental implants are made using titanium, which is a non-reactive metal. You do not need to worry about wear and tear on the implant.
